Nuns in the news

It must be a sign of the Apocalypse - the New York Times published a positive story about a group of Catholic nuns living together in community and providing care and love and support for their dying sisters.

In other Nun News, I suppose that, were you feeling like undergoing some self-mortification or felt like playing spot-the-distortion, you could read the New York Times other recent story about American nuns who will be undergoing an Apostolic Visitation. Or you could check out the nuns who donated their brains to Alzheimer's research - with fascinating results.

Pope Benedict XVI's top 5 comments to Obama

In light of the upcoming meeting between President Barack Obama and Pope Benedict XVI - and the fact that millions of faithful Catholics would endure a few extra days of purgatory just to be flies on the wall - here are the top five things that we can hope that the Pope will say to Obama:

5. I appreciate the stole, but if you really wanted to give me a gift, the recognition that abortion is intrinsically evil would be on the top of my wish list.

4.The question of abortion is not above my pay grade. And as president, it's not above yours any longer, Mr. President.

3. Do you understand the principles of formal and material cooperation with evil? Because we have 15 minutes and I could enlighten you, my son.

2. Hell is real even if you don't believe in it.

And finally, (thanks to the Curt Jester *):

1. "The Power of Christ compels you" with some splashed Holy Water...

A good thought to ponder

Few souls understand what God would accomplish in them if they were to abandon themselves unreservedly to Him and if they were to allow His grace to mold them accordingly.

You know you're Catholic when...

You wonder if digging up a St. Joseph statue would help you find an apartment to rent.

"An inconvenience rightly considered."

G.K. Chesterton once wrote, "An adventure is only an inconvenience rightly considered. An inconvenience is an adventure wrongly considered."

That probably should be my motto right now. This blog is born out of my current inconvenience - aspiring theology student gets accepted to graduate school at Unnamed University (not to be confused with Unseen University)and there is much rejoicing. And then she learns that U.U. won't be offering her any financial aid. Sigh.

Fortunately, not all is lost. I've currently got an amazing summer job with a fantastic Catholic organization, and I'm planning to apply to another couple of schools next year. But in the meantime my theological musings and Catholic news commentary need an outlet.

And thus this blog is born.

After all, as Chesterton also wrote, "When it rains on your parade, look up rather than down. Without the rain, there would be no rainbow."
